She says she didn't think it'd all get this far She's talkin' shit on me on the other end of the bar that crazy jetter laughs while she flexes her charm as if he hadn't heard that one before She comes back over, pours me another beer Says, "can't believe how much has changed in fifty some years." "how fast and slow the world is when it moves on I guess we're just a bunch of slow boiled frogs." She lights herself another Lucky Strike thinkin' about her dwindling supply Exhales the bitterest "Jesus Christ," and starts to talk about how if he was gonna come back he would'a come back by now Yeah I know world's so fucked up Lady, let's just get drunk It's right about now she starts slurring her lines it's either that or shaking hands all the time as the script thins out she starts to disappear Danny asks for another drink but she doesn't seem to hear. She takes Propranolol, old drugs I sold her a week ago They help slow down her gas can heart says, "Jesus Christ, I thought these things were supposed to kill. But it's everything else that makes me ill." Yeah I know world's so fucked up I'm just here to get drunk It's not the kind of place that you can forget All of your good ol’ days that you still regret

Days of Ash 02:54
See, that's her drinkin’ whisky tattoos of gardenia Tried quotin' Brautigan to her, she said, "I ain't no Virginia." "Baby I'm leavin’ in the Spring, when the job is done, I just thought that you should know." She said, "I'm not lookin’ to follow anyone, but if you stay, babe let me know." And wish I may and wish I might see you again tonight The curve of your body in the snowing radio light "They say you can't hold the Spring back but I don't wanna go, oh I don't know what to do." She said, "Baby, you gotta get your self outta here, This ain't no kinda place for you." Now I'm back here, this is our old ski hill bar I'm gonna find her again. When I got there her seat was empty but for some old Richard Brautigan.

Cassiopeia 06:11
Baby, you should see the way you look at me steady through a fault lining all the light and heat in our pop song woes will separate, the fairy shadows All the small and vanished gods will break they cannot hold mechanically you lean into me the lesser commodities and paint and tape and ink and all the solvents, the dye, the badger's hair, the canvas and oil all the world unfolds and pulls apart at the joints most toiled and either side of the fault line you haven't the money you haven't the time you fuck like a mule, you move by design that takes your teeth, your skin, your eyes the continents shift between your thighs it's okay I want you to this time it will break you in two I want you to(o). Cassiopeia oh regarde-toi how heavy your veins are where you burn out your stars you hang over me, how you hang over me. only light only heat, only light only heat.

I tried to reach you by phone Tragedy struck while you were away from home I just want you to know everyone's doing the best that they can and you were right about Randy Newman I felt a little bereft so I sat and listened to the records you left Took me a while but I guess, he's a little dry sometimes but he's a clever guy I replaced you with your Randy Newman And I know I ain't got no 20 piece orchestra and I know my bullshit apologies don't mean much to ya and I know we might not see each other again and I know there ain't much else to say that you'll believe so I'll just say it then, Thanks for all the Randy Newman I won't have nowhere to send this letter when I'm finished writin' it Nobody knows where you've been if you come back around, I might not be in town but your record's'll be where you left 'em I know eventually You'll take up residence inside of me It might drive me crazy I'll leave all of your lps, but Randy's comin' with me I love you and baby, I'm sorry

In hell there is no water, fell in love with the devil’s daughter, got a pass for my long-time truancy. in hell there is no safety, joined up with the devil’s navy, shipped out on a burning flaming sea. AND NOW MY HOME IS ADRIFT IN THE SNOW BLOOD TRAILS TO THE HILLS DON'T CRY FOR ME I AM A WEAPON OF GOD I ONLY KILL WHAT NEEDS TO BE KILLED giant caterpillar got no eyes, fell alseep inside its thighs, making love to a monster works for me. giant caterpillar got no face, I'll leave and fuck this place, couldn't burn so i drowned it in the sea. SAVAGE GHOSTS SINGING IN TONGUES, TAKING MY LIQUOR LINE THEM UP IN FRONT OF ME OR EXPOSE YOUR NECK, JUST ANOTHER CHRISTIAN TO THE SLAUGHTER THIS LAND IS MINE, YOU KNOW SHE DOESN'T COME FOR FREE I KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING BUT I DON'T WANNA LOOK I'LL BE STRONG, I AM A WEAPON OF GOD ONCE WAR'S INSIDE OF YOU IT DOESN'T EVER GET OUT ANOTHER BEER OVER HERE IF YOU WOULD, BUD

Shadowboxing 06:29
"Are you okay? Those guys outside will kill you if they get half of a chance." As she says this to me, her voice shaking she puts her hand out and rests it on the cut on my head but I am not there I see her eyes through rainy hair, bedlight rushing down her thigh without realizing I say it out loud as she wipes blood away, "this is always where I should be." Now is the time of all our great undoing now is when everything goes away This is how they're gonna remember you when you're gone If anybody remembers you anyway Jesus christ we had some crazy times with the world expiring all around us The old and vanished gods collide in the sky every night and we wait on those times to come back around “Man, you can't be castin' your shadow like that, I mean, Danny, look at him, he's three times your size.” I wake up again and she's holding my hand while I lie on the ground, she says, "babe what do you mean?"

I hear the crack of those straighter spines Come into the light! Come into the light! Did you ever tell him how well you loved him? Step into the light! Step into the light! The fixture sways and crackles. What do you think's up there, in the attic and the electric brambles? Come into the light! Come into the light! There's nothing left to us, after the steepening decline. You better eat the light! You better eat the light! That car tucked into the roadside snow, anyone that you know? Bring him into the light! Bring him into the light! Was what would have killed you already there in the scans? Bring it into the light! Bring it into the light! The moon's just another eye You couldn't blind it if you tried. Bring it into the light! Down into the light! Any city that knows your name will step on your neck just the same. Bring em into the light! Bring em into the light! I need to know who's dying out in the snow. There weren't any lights. There weren't any lights. Such a skinny life of Last Drinks tonight Leave em in the light. Leave em in the light. Not enough tragedy to hold on to me. Even in the light. Even in the light. Hey, where'd he go? He was right here before. Somethin' wrong with the lights. Something wrong with the lights. And the sky caved in

Days of Snow 05:38
It's been a long time and no time at all I've been falling asleep on your couch and murdering your ghost, my shepherding host. Partially human, and partially not I just wanna rest, I guess I'm older than I thought Then, I thought He never came back in from the snowstorm last/that winter But sometimes people aren't always what you remember. How do you miss someone that might never have been here? Think of the jokes he would have told/Think of the jokes he’d be tellin’ now. It's okay if you don't like this song. As long as you like me we’ll both get what we deserved all along, but we don’t have too long. I've heard so much said about you. God only knows if any of it's even true. Was I the ghost or were you? Maybe one day I’ll find your car out in the snow right where you left it on the day you had to go. I’ll look inside and find the keys still in the ignition and I’ll drive it out to see you then.

Well, I been drinkin' burnt coffee all damn night playing cards on the train, what a hell of a ride I had a panic attack but no one noticed my plight and if I get to the old bar tonight I'll be all right Well I love my whisky and I like my wine but if I don't get a sip of it I'll be fine All I'm gonna need me to have a real good time is to find my baby tonight Well I ain't seen 'em in so long gonna make sure the jukebox is playin' our song He's gonna come in for a beer or two and find me saying, "babe I'm back and I love you!" Spendin' every night at the Apocalypse Club while the world outside is lookin pretty banged up Kinda hard to worry when you're fallin in love with someone ya never seen before He always called me his golden rose, he said, "babe you're the top no matter how high it goes," one night he left the bar and never came back no more and I went look for him on my own I packed up my little suit case I met all kindsa people all over the place not a single one could measure up to havin’ a drink with my baby at the Apocalypse Club Well I been drinkin' burnt coffee all damn night I got a feeling I can't shake that I just might find my baby again tonight waiting for me at the Apocalypse Club

about

The long anticipated self released sophomore follow up to Garden Variations, Greetings from the Apocalypse Club seeks to tell a new story with the help of a full backing band, The Good Goddamn. Another storytelling concept record, the story this time is a bit more of a traditional narrative, taking place over the course of one evening in the titular Club: the bar of a shut down skill hill resort in the mountains of Montana re-purposed as a makeshift community center of sorts in the not too distant future. Economic, climate, and the early stages of societal collapse become inarguable, first hand matters of fact to some people and nothing but widespread hoaxes and conspiracies to others more insulated from the immediate effects. The slow boiling apocalypse has equal parts believers and deniers in the Apocalypse Club, some using the name with irony and some with dry acceptance. It’s here where a love-in-the-time-of-collapse story plays out between two star-crossed bystanders of this apocalypse in that one evening.
